#05 Modern・Primitive
June 2022.
I visited England after a year and a half. While seeing tailoring from the Middle Ages, historical clothing documents, and ancient traditional costumes gathered from all over the world, I became interested in their commonalities and differences. (This is a theme I want to research for a long time.)
In this collection, I explore forms that lie between the three-dimensionality of modern clothing that protects the body, and the flatness of traditional costumes and the ancient relationship between people and cloth (primitive) where ample fabric is used to protect the body.
This is expressed using lightweight, spring/summer materials such as cotton silk and Banshu cotton weaves, as well as organic cotton and linen fabrics that develop a richer character with wear.
